I had one goal of trying to create healthy frozen desserts—ensuring that my husband doesn’t order any ice cream! He has a sweet tooth (and I have a salty one if there is such a thing!). Therefore, having healthy desserts accessible has two-fold benefits: 1. eat them is guilt-free and 2. portion-controlled because they have more fiber and natural ingredients.
A couple of weeks ago, I had shared these frozen banana-nuts-oats bites, which my husband makes for himself now. Today, I am sharing another frozen dessert – Avocado-Paan Icecream!
Paan or Betel leaf is rich in Vitamin C, and calcium, among others. Avocado, on the other hand, is rich in good fats (mono-unsaturated) and fiber. I had discussed in the post on healthy kitchen habits that sugar is something we have gotten rid of from the pantry. Therefore, I use dates to sweeten this ice cream and a little cardamom to cut down on the sweet. I hope you give this Avocado-Paan ice cream a try!

10 mins Preparation and 5 hours freezing time
Diet:

Gluten-Free
Ingredients
- 1 Ripe Avocado
- 1 Lemon
- 1/2-1 cup milk (Plant-Based milk for Vegan; we will add it gradually to scrape off the Avocado from the blender)
- 1 large Paan leaf (Betel Leaf)
- 3-5 Dates (per taste) – I use Medjool dates
- 1 cardamom pod
- 3 walnuts (optional – Better to use soaked walnuts)
- 4 cashew nuts
- 3-4 raisins (optional)
- 2-3 tbsp chopped nuts for garnishing

Step 1
Peel and deseed the Avocado, squeeze the lemon juice in a small bowl (no seeds), and deseed the dates.
Step 2
Add all ingredients in a blender, except the raisins. Keep aside the milk.
Note: Add only three dates at this stage.
Step 3
Blend it well. At this stage, taste the mixture and add the remaining dates only if you like it to be sweeter. Add milk gradually only until blending well and scraping off Avocados.

Now scrape of the Avocado-Paan paste and, chopped raisins and freeze – Prefer a steel or Glass container. You may sprinkle more chopped nuts on the top for added crunch and flavor.
Step 5
Let it freeze for 4-6 hours. Serve cold.
Expected Questions for making Avocado-Paan Ice cream
1. Can I replace Avocado with something?
Banana comes closest but will obviously have a distinct banana flavor.
2. I don’t have dates. Any replacement suggested?
You may use Jaggery powder. I won’t recommend using white sugar.
3. Can I add cocoa?
Of course; you may – I have tried but didn’t like the flavor of Paan and Cocoa together.
4. Which Blender did you use?
I used Vitamix and you may use any high-power blender.

Can I make this without paan? Or any replacement suggestion?
Of course! You can add mint instead of paan (5-8 mint leaves) for avocado-mint! Add 1 tbsp chocolate and 1/2-1 teaspoon orange zest for Avocado orange. I tried plain chocolate and didn’t like much. Orange zest perfects the flavor.
