Refreshing Mint-Banana Smoothie perfect for summer afternoons!  Mint from our backyard has a character of its own; It inspired this blog (about me), and many recipes in our kitchen (mint lassi, mint tea & avocado cucumber salad with mint dressing).

 

Mint and Banana Smoothie

Coming to the banana smoothie, we used to have banana shake growing up; back then hadn’t heard of the word “smoothie.” Mom used to make that banana shake with bananas, milk, sugar, and cardamom.

These days, in our banana shake/smoothie, we have graduated to dates instead of white sugar and add fresh mint from our backyard for that refreshing flavor – and we all devour it during summer weekend afternoons! I hope you give it a try!

Why add Mint to Banana Smoothie?

This banana-mint smoothie tastes perfect, especially if you don’t like too much sweet. Mint always does the trick with sweet dishes to balance too much sweet with its refreshing flavor.

Banana is rich in potassium, and we try to have it every day (10 healthy foods to have every day). Mint, on the other hand, is rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and iron, among others.

Ingredients

  • One ripe banana
  • 7-8 mint leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1-2 dates, per taste (I use medjool dates)
  • 1.5 cups milk (use plant-based milk for vegan)

Step 1

Deseed the dates and peel the banana.

Step 2

Blend all ingredients in a blender/smoothie maker.

Step 3

Garnish with a mint leaf. Serve.

Expected Questions for making Mint-Banana smoothie

1.Can I skip the cardamom or replace with something?

Cardamom adds an excellent flavor to this smoothie. If you don’t have access to it, you may use a clove and 1/2 a teaspoon cinnamon powder. 

2. Which Blender works best?

Any smoothie maker can be used for this smoothie. I use Vitamix for this recipe. 

3. Okay to use mint powder instead of fresh mint leaves?

You may use mint powder as well. 1-2 teaspoons of mint powder should work fine for this recipe.
